Traditional Tales
We listened to the story of The Three Little Pigs and talked about the characters in the story. We agreed that if we were planning to build a house, it's best to use bricks. Despite taking longer to build, the extra time is worthwhile as we get a stronger house.
We said we could try to apply this idea to our school work, working slowly and carefully rather than rushing things!
We sequenced the story using cards and made our own Three Little Pigs book.

Homework
Homework this weekend is handwriting, reading and tricky words.
- Practise writing capital and small letters on the lines, using the correct form.
- Practise saying tricky words (these need to be known by sight and cannot be sounded out using phonics)
- Practise writing the tricky words - can you remember how to write them without looking?
- Read your book every day
Have a great weekend!

Even and odd numbers
In maths we have been learning more about numbers.
Now we know that not all numbers are the same - some numbers are even, and some are odd.
To help us discover the numbers between 1 and 10 are even and odd, we used cubes.
We tried to share the cubes equally into two piles. We discovered that when there is one cube left over, the number is odd. When we could share the cubes equally, the number was even.

Halloween and half-term holidays
We had a fun-filled day of Halloween celebrations on our last day of school.
To get into the spooky Halloween spirit, we carved a pumpkin and made some decorations for our classroom.
We had to cut the top off the pumpkin and scoop out LOTS from the inside. |
Then we carved a scary face! |

Maths
In maths we have been learning about addition.
We have been adding 1 and 2, to numbers up to 12.
To help us, we have been using bead strings.
We also thought about
passengers on a bus...
If there are 7 passengers
sitting on a bus, and two more get on, how many are on the bus now?
How can we write this as a
mathematical sentence?
7+2=9 Easy!
Thank you!
Last week we used our phonics to write some beautiful thank you cards to the firefighters of Istra fire station. |
We worked very creatively to design cards that we thought the firefighters would like. |

Fire station visit!
On Friday 14th October we paid a visit to our local fire station, which helped us understand the job of the fire brigade.
We saw the firefighter's uniform, the room where they sleep, four different fire engines and a demonstration of a fire hose being used.
We even got to try on a firefighter's helmet and go inside the fire engines!
